Asif Kapadia and Manish Pandey, makers of SENNA, guests on EURO Scriptchat on 13th November

Making a Documentary has a number of responsibilities, you have to have an in depth knowledge of the subject matter and a journalistic eye to tell your story.  Who better to chat to about how it’s done than Asif Kapadia and Manish Pandey, the director and writer of the film Senna, one of the most critically acclaimed and successful documentaries of the year.

ASIF KAPADIA
BAFTA award winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia is known for his visually striking films exploring the lives of ‘outsiders’, characters living in timeless, extreme and unforgiving circumstances or landscapes. Born in Hackney, London, Kapadia studied filmmaking at the Royal College of Art where he first gained recognition with his short THE SHEEP THIEF (1997), shot in India, the film won Second Prize at the 1998 Cannes International Film Festival (Cinefoundation).
Kapadia’s first feature THE WARRIOR (2001, FilmFour), was shot in the deserts of Rajasthan and the Himalaya. The film was nominated for three BAFTA awards, winning British Film of the Year and Special Achievement by a Director in their First Feature.
SENNA, (2010, Working Title / Universal Pictures) Kapadia’s fourth feature is the thrilling story of Brazilian motor-racing legend, Ayrton Senna. Winner of Audience Awards at Sundance, Los Angeles, Melbourne & Moscow Film Festivals. SENNA has taken over $12m at the box office and is the highest grossing British documentary of all time. SENNA has been nominated for three British Independent Film Awards including for Best British Film & has been nominated for four Cinema Eye Awards including for Best Non Fiction Film.
